    The control unit you require is called the EIS. This is the unit the key goes into.

    You do not state which chassis this car is ie W210 or W211. There is a big difference in these two cars. On the W210, the EIS is the Gateway, on the W211 it has a CGW (central gateway).

    In my opinion you are wasting your time trying to fix this car with no understanding on how these systems work , correct diagnostic equipment or information systems (wiring,fuction descriptions, component locations etc).

    To gain communication with the EIS module without the key on with either of these cars the CAN B has to be active. This happens when the door is opened but only lasts for about 90 seconds. You will see the cluster come to life as you open the door (or should). While it is like this you can then communicate with it.

    If you remove the EIS module you should have 2 large red wires that have term. 30 and also a small red wire that has term. 30 also (this is actually term.30z that powers the inductive coil to read the key).

    Diagnosis can be difficult if you do not have a spare key although you should be able to communicate with the EIS as noted earlier without one.

    One cause Can be the Main power fuses (100/200 amp) have been blown from reversed polarity jump starting. Check these out. In the floorpan under the drivers carpet (chassis would help for exact location).

    Depending on what you find you may not have the diagnostic capability to complete the job (ie coding and programming)

    If it is at the dealer, why can they not give you a diagnosis of the problem ?
