Having problems with an ignition key on a 1998 BMW Z3M. Customer has one good fully working key and one spare (looks the same as the working one).
The battery died in the spare due to lack of use, which the customer replaced. But now the car will not start (wont crank) with the spare key (works fine with the other). All other functions like remote lock/unlock arm/disarm etc all work fine, it just wont crank the engine over.
The EWS system is not recognising the key - is it possible to recode/re-align/resync these keys with the EWS or is it a BMW dealer only job? I have tried the ignition on/off unlock-press-lock-3-times procedure but it still wont start (process appears to work ok).
I have the BMW Group Tester 1 (GT1) system but cannot find how to code the key to the EWS. Any ideas?
