    VW Golf 1.6 16v BCB 2003 (53) - High compression, stalling problem - Fixed # Archived Message

Getting strange symptoms on this golf.
Car comes in with an stalling problem.
Found to have a misfire on idle which clears above 1500rpm.
    Did a compression test.
    1,3,4 on 175.
Cylinder 2 is very high(as in off the scale!).
Confirmed by dragging revs down on idle with the clutch in 4th whilst watching timing retardation on each cylinder.
Can hear detonation on one cylinder and timing retards by 15-+degree's on 2 only, presumably due to high cylinder comps.
The car passed an mot gas test and does'nt pop back through the inlet manifold when running or during compression testing. Also runs fine at all other times.
Am getting it back in on monday for a closer look.
Am thinking along lines of an exhaust
    tappet problem(assuming hydraulic).
    Any thoughts guys?
