    Keith,when you say "thump" could it be a misfire I've had quite a few of these engines knock out injectors black soot appears around air filter area they do knock a bit on tickover but run up the road ok I've done leak off test on injectors and did get a sympathetic warranty once from Volvo who changed all injectors at half price no labour ,just a thought? martin
