    You can't do any damage if you try to program a 4C chip to a 4D system

    Apparently, you can if you do it the other way round although before learning this, we did it once and no harm was done.

    When you go through the proceedure, at the end you have put the ecu in to learn mode. If the correct chip is not used, it won't program and will remain in learn mode. Last month we did a new shape fiesta which wouldn't accept one of the chips as it was faulty. We returned 3 days later and the car was still waiting for the keys to be cycled, cycled in the 2 new keys without connecting the tester and they both programmed.

    Now we also have the 4D Carbon chips as fitted to the new fords, but go back a few years with the new shape fiesta. 4D glass and 4D carbon are not interchangeable and the wrong one will not program in.
