Going on past experience with Land Rovers in general, and Freelanders in particular, I would never advise a customer to buy one. Even a diesel. Problems with the IRD units and viscous couplings spring to mind but there is no reason to suspect the new version won't have just as many design flaws. Especially as the new owners have been making such quality icons as the Tata pick-up! I've always felt the Freelander is a 4x4 for people who don't actually want a 4x4! All of the problems of a Rover (RIP) with all of the costs and problems of a 4x4. It's so much of a compromise between car and SUV so it ends up being neither one. I know opinions are like arses - everyone's got one - but I thought I'd stick my two penny's worth in. Paul.
