Thanks for all the helpand advice!
Split the box,pinion bearing obviously knackered.Replaced this one and both crownwheel bearings (just to be safe) without further dismantling.
£35 later sounds good as new.Easy job if you dont strip it any further (I know theres still a risk but worked for me!)
