BMW 320d 2.0 2002 - Brake light bulb failure lamp will not go out # Archived Message

    Hi all,
Bit of a brain stormer this one. When engine running all is fine, all warning lights out except brake light bulb failure warning comes on although bulbs ok.
Turn ignition off, engine stops and expected warning lights come on, however, 3 or 4 seconds later brake lights come on (although still showing bulb failure), cruise control light comes on and water temp gauge goes to full scale deflection hot. Removing key has no effect lights still remain on.
No faults codes in any of the systems, ignition switch ok, have removed every relay/fuse, disconnected plugs checked alternator all to no avail. The only time the lights go out is when the battery is disconnected.
Customer states that this fault occured shortly after the heated rear window was replaced. I can't find any faults with it. He also states that he had to start the car with jump leads but is adament that he connected the jump leads correctly.
The two local dealers have never heard of this problem. Any help will be much appreciated.
    Rgds Barry
