Sorry for the original post , as I said a long day. Ford do have a TSB on this problem, which mainly consists of replacing the thermostat with a 74 degree one and fitting a hose kit . The new thermostat is smaller than the original and can be fitted ether way around,the Ford parts diagram shows it fitted with the body of the stat into the plastic housing. This is wrong, the wax bulb goes towards the water pump impeller in the conventional manner. The hose kit links the heater return hose and the top hose by the means of two plastic "T" pieces and 6" of hose fitted just in front of the inlet manifold.
