Ford Focus 1600 Zetec S 1999 overheating Archived Message

This Focus suddenly overheated a mile from the customers house bringing the management light on and I suspect going into limp mode as she said it will not rev.It had a leak from the thermostat housing and the radiator was cold,I replaced the t/stat and seals which cured the leak but still no circulation through the rad.I have heard that the heater valve can give this problem so bridged the two heater pipes were they go into the bulkhead, the radiator now has full circulation and the engine doesn't overheat. I spoke to Ford parts who say there is no valve on this model? so even though the heater was giving out plenty of heat is this possibly a blocked matrix ?. Ford parts think that there may be a TSB for this problem but cannot find it. Second question, even through the engine is not now over heating I am beginning to wonder if I put the t/stat in the right way around with the wax part into the block. Thanks.
