Noisy standard exhausts Bosal Archived Message

We fit mostly Bosal exhausts. Mainly because all the other makes available locally are poor quality or very poor quality. Most of our customers are repeats so we don't want to upset them with overpriced cr*p.

Last year fitted coplete system including cat to low mileage 1995 laguna 1.8 8valve. Customer complained it was noisy, we had to agree. Factors sent another system but before we could fit it car was crashed and unsuprisingly written off.

Recently same situation with 97 Xantia 1.8 8valve(coincidence, I'm sure). Today fitted another back box, no change. This car has one cat and one silencer at rear, as most Pug/Cit. Running it with silencer removed it is very loud, sounds like straight through. These type of systems often break off at the same point and usually sound as though a degree of silencing is occuring, presumably by the cat.

The cat casing is similar size to original and is performing correctly on 4 gas. The original failed because pipework before and after had rotted, not due to emmision problems.
There are no leaks, the noise is harshness at the tailpipe, noticable inside the car when engine under slight load.

    Anyone been here before?
