Ford Escort (I Know!) 1997 1.8d immobiliser fault (I think!) Archived Message

    Hi all,

Hope some bright spark can help shed (pun intended!) Some light on this one.

The side light fuse intermittantly blows when the key is removed. Not when switched off or locked up, but when the key is withdrawn from the barrel. If another fuse is inserted it blows immediately until the ignition is switched back on. The engine will not crank over unless another fuse is inserted. The fuse will then not blow until the key is removed again.... sometimes!

Naturally the feckin' thing's worked perfectly for me today!! So this is all evidence given to me by the customer.

Obviously the immobiliser is fed from this fuse but I can't find a seperate module. The engine cranks and starts with the C/L module disconnected. A/D lists the immobiliser module incorporated in the ECM after 1996.

I have wiggled every wire I can get to, with a 21w bulb in place of the fuse in question, without any evidence of a dead short.

It's nearly 11pm now so I'm going home!

    Anybody got any thoughts?

    Thanks in anticipation,

    Paul.
