Honda Civic 2003 1.4SE - Steering fault, will not self centre after turning corner # Archived Message

Hi chaps, I have a honda civic with a steering fault, it won't self centre when you have turned a corner. It has electric power assistance similar to the vauxhall system. I have tried disconnecting the track rods and the hubs seem to be turning freely so I'm assuming the problem lies in the rack/motor assembly.
It is a very clean car and it's only done 45k miles so I'm a bit surprised that this has happened. I have driven vehicles that were worse than this over the years but it is noticeable and unfortunately it's recently been sold by us so it has to be sorted for the customer.
I have noticed that bba have these listed on one of their flyer's so that tells me that maybe this is a common thing? I have rang them and they are quoting approx £200.00 to refurbish ours(3-4 day turnaround) but I am a bit wary as I know people have had issues with them before sourcing second hand parts and passing them off as refurbed! They are silly money from the dealers so does anyone have any suggestions, thoughts or previous experience with this set up?

    Many thanks,
    John.
