thanks for you reply Peter... "inhibitor switch" - thats the device I couldnt remember the name of!!
Anyhow, it seems that that little gizmo didnt come into it... it turns out that that diagram I got from the archives, posted in my help request, was just the one... it did the job. I had a bad wire on the starter return in the plug , thats why I thought the diagram wasnt right for this car.. that sorted, and that was that. So, I suppose the 'useful info' out of my experience is that the same Bosch unit was indeed fitted to that model Vauxhall. Hope this helps someone sometime ..
