Citroen C3 2002 - Software update required after fitting new wiper switch and comms unit Archived Message

We have had a C3 exclusive 52 plate in for non working windscreen wipers. We could get the wipers to work through the diagnostic tool but no joy from the switch. We suspected the switch and ordered a new comms unit(£138)Replaced the switch and comms unit, but no joy. After contacting local dealer it became clear that a software download//update would be required for the BSI.Customer returned for vehicle although quite reasonable about the situation was a little cheesed off with hassle of going to dealers.Surely the manufacturers should be forced to issue and make freely available all software updates that effect a customers vehicle. If you purchase a car with installed software it is the manufacturers responsibility to make it possible for owners to update if they so wish.If microsoft had us all going down to the local microsoft shop for updates to our pc's people would be rightly annoyed.especially if they were charged for the privelage each time. Why dont the trade bodies we all pay good money to,MVRA,RMI etc etc confront the EU and vehicle manufacturers about this restrictive practice.Global updates could be installed via the obd socket and if it is not simple to do then they should be forced to make it easy to do.At the end of the day we are all loosing more and more customers to the dealers, through no fault of our own.
