John has the gearbox been out of this van recently, if so check to se if the two magnets are still in the flywheel i have had the problem with berlingo 1.9D smoking and running rough no pulse from RPM sensor and this was the problem the gearbox had been out and someone had knocked the magnets from the flywheel.
