Hi Steve, We had one like yours, After a bit of checking we found out that the VSS had a poor earth, we traced it back to an earth on the Back of the cylinder head on the Drivers side, The wire was broken where it goes into the ring terminal. We found it by scoping all 3 wires on the sensor and noticed that we hadn't got a proper earth.
