I only ask because I have an annoying habit of taking on these types of problems

Long story short

The fault initially was very intermittant then was bringing more systems down.
Armed with several pages of fault codes
we started to disconnected systems and started with ABS pump and almost immediatley saw a rub thru point on the loom 6" from the connector as it passed the pump unit.

More luck than judgement but I suppose Its knowing what area to initially check then its in the lap of the gods
