Most of my work is servicing, if you peak behind the wheel cylinder rubbers and there is fluid I advise customer on service check sheet and invoice that they require replacement within 3 months. If it comes back in 12 months and shoes are soaked, then they just have an even bigger bill. Just put the onus on the customer to come back and have them replaced as its a safety issue

I also grew up in the era of cars with drums all round and manual adjusters, very rarely changed the cylinders, just got repair kit usually Lockheed or Girling which had a new cylinder and seals. All bled out with your jam jar and bleed tube, you topped up with brake fluid from the the last bleed job no such thing as boiling points or water content in them days

PS: I used to hate doing suspension repairs on Morris Minors, must have been the only car on the planet where you needed every spanner in your tool box, every nut was a different size
