I think I remember James Dillon, stating that as a rule of thumb typical starter crank amps should be approx 3 x batt amp hr rating. e.g. if battery spec is 60 amp hr the crank amps will be 180 amp.
Both cranking amps and cranking speed will be effected considerable by battery condition and temperature, so this needs to be considered.
