We have a few Vito vans in company fleet and a couple have gone back to the Mercedes dealer with this fault and both times they have replaced the oil level sensor.
But as they were both covered by warranty I never really got down and dirty with it!! if you know what I mean
I do remember one of them went in twice because the new senor had failed again
