I have had a few where other garages have fitted used columns and they have immobilised.
My assumption now is that if a used column is fitted without disconnecting the battery then it powers up at a different time to the other systems on the can network and the immobiliser doesn't synch.
If the column is fitted whilst the battery is disconnected and everything powers up at the same time it synchronises and the vehicle starts.
I have had some brought in that have had used columns fitted that were "immobilised" and We have swapped the immobiliser chip from the original column to the replacement column and they have started and run ok.
I had one that started and ran OK but the immobiliser light stopped on.........
So on that One, I disconnected the battery, left it off for a while, Reconnected it and the immobiliser light went off. phewwwww.
