This would not have been an issue on earlier carburetted cars since excess fuel would have pooled in the inlet manifold rather than in the space behind ther valves(nor would it be an issue on SPI systems) which is why it is only seen as a relativly new problem!
Winding it over will spray more fuel on the backs of the valves and whether or not this allows the engine to eventually start may depend on whether this washes the valves faster than new deposits are created (IYSWIM).
Yep, I like it! Makes much more sense than bore washing, It also explains the very specific sporadic way in which the compressions recover on cranking.
