Power steering warning lamp illuminates, usually but not always.
First read (VCDS) gave:-
00816 power steering sensor (G250) 30-10-open or short to plus-intemittent.
When read again today gave that code and also:-
01290 Reference voltage; steering assist 29-10 short to ground intermittent.
In measuring blocks the pump speed remains constantly at idle (1330 rpm approx) and no angular velocity for the steering angle sensor is shown when the wheel is turned.
I had a similar one of these last year. On that I replaced the sensor to no good effect and I found out that the EHPS controllers are quite troublesome, customer could not afford a replacement unit and elected to "put up with it".
The sensor is a 3 wire device, NBV, ground and signal. Can anybody tell me what signal I should expect? When I scoped it I got a 375mS positive pulse repeating every 2.75sec on a 1sec/div timebase. When observed at faster timebase I got 100microsecond positive pulses at a repetition rate of 1KHz. This with no steering movement. Sorry but my scope is stand alone so uploading images is difficult.
I was expecting a pulse stream when the steering was moved but perhaps I'm being overly simplistic. It is entirely possible that the sensor is an intelligent device and I'm looking at a datastream... or it could just be faulty.
Disconnected sensor and fed it from a bench PSU with a pull up resistor on the output and got identical results.
Some guidance on what I should expect to see would be useful.
