Does it need a complete alternator? The regulator can be changed in situ with the boost pipe removed. Changed a few on low mileage 211 CDIs for corrosion in the reg terminals. All of the 211 models I have worked on have got a battery control module to control the alternator so don't forget to check it's operating correctly. Otherwise it's as Andrew said to swap out a whole unit.
