I would still like to know how there came to be graves at the Mt. Nebo cemetery long before Mt. Nebo was established. Was the cemetery associated with an earlier church, or was the cemetery at Mt. Nebo a "free-standing" cemetery in the Queen Anne area? The James Taylor Loveless buried there is a member of my ancestral family.

: In my response to your inquiry, I meant to say
: that the Methodist church on Accokeek Road
: Road (of which only the graveyard survives)
: was also called McKendree.

: The 1861 Martenet Map of PG County shows a
: McKendree Chapel in the Queen Anne District,
: on Queen Anne Bridge Road, about a mile west
: of the junction with Mill Branch Road. This
: is very near the location of the first Mt.
: Nebo Church. The oldest known grave in the
: Mt. Nebo cemetery predates the first Mt.
: Nebo church by 17 years. Does anyone know
: anything about the McKendree Chapel and if
: it had a cemetery associated with it?
