I just checked Google maps. The location of the old CCC camp looks as though it could have been right where you said. It looks as though it was off Powder Mill between Dairy Road S and Nat'l Agr Research Rd. One of the long rectangular buildings is still there, looks like, at corner of Powder Mill and Dairy Rd. S.

: Glad you are having success. It all sounds so
: mysterious. Sometimes the government is not
: forthcoming about what they do, where, and
: why. Best wishes on your search.
: I do know that there were some locations
: around PG County that were used as missile
: silos, but this doesn't sound like the right
: time period for that.

: RE: Thank you for your answer and
: suggestions.
: I did go into Google Earth and am almost
: sure I have found the site of those
: barracks/apartments. It is off Powder Mill
: Rd, on Edmonson Rd, near the USDA
: Agricultural center. The wells----They were
: deep and had water in the bottom. They were
: open holes and they were all over that field
: !It was very strange. If my parents had
: known that my cousin and I
: "explored" them, oh my ! Another
: thing of interest was a large
: "chimney" type structure with
: remains of burned movie reels. The reels
: looked like military training of some kind.
: There were hundreds of them around the
: chimney tower and in the large building.
: While viewing it on Google Earth, I notice a
: tan cleared area behind this housing that is
: most likely the spot where the chimney
: stood. Is it my imagination that it looks
: like a gray area where that chimney stood ?
: That was a long time ago and perhaps my
: imagination is running wild. HA Again, I
: thank you for your help. I am going to the
: site you found to see if we are looking at
: the same place. I have always wondered about
: this strange place. I want to go back
: someday.

: Sitting here thinking. Why don't you
: contact
: the USDA? They most likely have an
: archivist who can furnish you with the info
: you desire. Just a thought...another avenue
: of possible discovery.

: I was looking around the internet and came
: up with an aerial photo of possibly the camp
: you describe. I typed in CCC camp in
: Beltsville in Google and the very first hit
: was for a camp at the USDA in Beltsville.
: Bingo. Try that. I wonder what those wells
: were. Were they underground storage?

: About 1948, we lived in Beltsville. I think
: my
: father worked at a turkey farm, most likely
: connected with the USDA. We lived in a
: "military" type building, which I
: think may have been an old CCC Camp. There
: were several of these buildings, turned into
: "apartments". One of the larger
: buildings was PACKED FULL with old
: "movie type reels, "military"
: type office furniture, typing paper, etc.
: Near the property was a field that was
: dotted with OPEN wells with ladders going
: down into the wells. A real danger for a
: curious 6 yr. old ! My question---Can
: someone tell me where this old site was
: located? Name of present day road, etc. I
: have heard there is now a housing
: development located on the site. I thank you
: for any help.
