Confederate troop movements in Beltsville

Daniel Carroll Tommey’s book, The Johnson-Gilmor Raid, July 9-13, 1864, states that General Johnson stopped in Beltsville to burn train box cars and capturing mules. He also set up an artillery piece on the property next to the St John’s Episcopal Church at US 1 and Powder Mill Rd. From there he was traveling to Southern MD via the “Marlboro Rd” when he received orders to abort the mission. From there he traveled to the Rossborough Estate at the Agriculture College (U of MD) then on to Montgomery County to rejoin the rest of the Confederate forces. The only Marlboro Rd that I know of is Rt 202. From the maps and text given in the book, Johnson was in or near what is now the USDA farm when he received his orders. From present day maps, the “Marlboro Road” in question is Soil Conversation Rd. Would your office be as so kind to confirm this? Thank you very much. Bryan Green
