I was an air traffic controller and worked in the Rapcon (radar facility across runway near acess road that went to thai housing thai housing.the red and white trailers were visible from flline.most everyone statione at Takhli has heard me play guitar as i was in t wo bands made up of military personel.i played in a country band and in a rock band.i played st the airmans , nco and officers clubs fot slmost my entire therebin takhli. I still play music today in a active band.i am now 69. I was 21 in 1967. Time goes fast. Hope to hear from someone.I arrived Takhli in January 1967. LARRY

I was right across from the trailers. worked at the A.G.E. shop, right behind the F-105 revetments. August 67/august 68 Loved how they lit up the sky in the early morning hours.

Hi Larry,

At takhli dec. 66 to dec. 67. I worked in base supply Maintenence support. I handled the NORS (not operationally ready this station), for B-66 & F105's. Requesioned parts and drlivered to flightline when they arrived. 3 14hr. days then 4 days off. Spent too much time downtown.I'm 69 as well. Dealing with aschemic heart failure, type 2 diabetes w/ insulin, PTSD, and who knows what else. It was fun then but not so much now. Take care.

Hi guys, I was there 1/67-12/67. It looks like you were there in my time zone. I guess I am an old guy I am 71. I was an Aircraft Electrician on the 66,s and the 105,s and any thing that showed up. I was also sent to DaNang several times to recover our birds. Can't prove it and all records are missing. One guy in my hooch had a large python in a cage next to us. I was stationed in Takhli in the USAF as a Munitions Maintenance Spec. Rate: Sgt. I have some slides, but have not broken into them lately. I know I humped more "usuals" 750lb Gen Purpose bombs that you could ever imagine. I could load a 40 foot trailer in 15 minutes with a grove Crane. I had great Thais. sa wa di.

I was at Takhli from Nov 67 to Nov 68. Was in 355 Civil Engineering Squadron. Anyone from then? I'm 71 in good health living in Colorado Springs.

Hi Dennis, After Takhli I went to Del Rio Texas, Laughlin AFB Cross trained from A.G.E. To maintenance control, Sweet job worked in airconditioned comfort for 2 years.

You might post a bit more info to round out your requests - time periods, Squadron or duty section and and your interest. Good helpful and forthcoming group here but most vets like to have some background such as looking for a buddy, working on VA claims or seeking info for other reasons.

As you traveled from Main Base to Bomb-Dump, do you recall at the NW end of Runway / Taxiway the TRIM PADSs where we Ran-Up our "Birds" (F-105 & F-111, EB-66), doing Elect. Tests at 100%+ After-burner. Also can you describe the Tanker Trucks that were allegedly Spraying "Mosquito Repellant", where they Filled these Tankers, and where the Barrel's of "Repellant" were Stored ?

They only Sprayed once the Sun Set, to Minimize Evaporation and Maximize Saturation onto fast-growing Jungle Foliage, lessoning Chances of SAPPER attack and Infiltration. We did In-fact have a "Infiltrator" cut his way into our "LOX-Plant" (LIQ O2) - Required for Hi-Altitude Flights. The young E-3 manning Dispatch office (AP Hqtrs) simply stated >
"Pursue & Annihilate IF necessary", Short & Sweet

Then I had a Hospital stay with Blood Clots in both Lungs.. lost track keeping up with this Site...

My Tour Mirrored precisely those same Months '67-'68. Question.. Wondering how often you may have worked at the NORTH-WEST END Runway much... where our TRIM PADSs were (ENGINE Run-Up's @ 100% + After-Burner... as we did Full Elect.Sys. Checks). Wonderin' IF you worked Swing Shifts, when Tanker Trucks would Spray down the Heavy Foliage there ? Never Sprayed Daytime, Minimizing Rapid EVAPORATION & Maximizing Foliage Penetration. Those Area's, STILL BARREN Today. Nothing Grows. Hoping your Health is still A-Ok. Large number of us Airmen stationed there, noticing many similar Symptoms ... Viking ~ ~

Ahoy - ROGER MAGUIRE Thank U for writing back. Too bad you weren't the REPUB TECH REP overseeing my Bird with "3 RED X's" (IN-Flight SPOILER Deployment, and that PILOT Recovered & RTB all 3X !!) REPUBLIC REP arrived about 11 PM, right after a Monsoon hit me while running her up at 80%, telling me > "This Bird will NEVER FLY Again! She's been Grounded, and I'm here to Canibalize Good Parts, then Cut her up into pieces". I had to Re-Create that ELECT SHORT I found inside A/C Compartment- where Condensation on bulkhead touched our Bare Wire in 2 1/2" Wire-Bundle. As I pulled bundle away - Spoilers would Retract, then Deploy each time I pushed bundle onto WET Bulkhead ! REP Asked > "How the Hell did U figure that out !?" Simply replied, Guess all the Sr. Master SGT's, and Officers that tried to DUPLICATE this CND (Can Not Duplicate) just never thought to Turn on the AIR Conditioner !" Anyway... wondering IF you recall the Tanker Trucks that Sprayed during SWING SHIFT at the TRIM PADs at least every other Night ?? And IF U recall the OILY Substance covering your Arms and permeating Uniform, Pungent, Bitter-Sweet, Smell & Taste I'll never Forget... ! Hope your Health is Well.. TU, Mike

And to All TAKHLI VETs, All VETs stationed on Thai Bases, as well All VETs serving other Foreign Bases, afflicted with "Herbicide/AO-Related Diseases", due to "Base-Perimeter Spraying, Storage, Transporting, & Handling" such Deadly-Toxic Materials, per Military Orders.

I'm on/off this SITE at variable frequencies, lately ON ... conducting extensive Research.

Thanks again for response, and wonderin' IF you happened to stay in contact with any of your Co-Reps either on Base, or back in the States.

Also, if willing to Trade Buddy-Letters... Given you no-Doubt know what the TRIM PADs were used for > as well Witnessing Types of MOS Personnel dispatched to these (4) PADs (NW End of Runway / Taxiway), AND typically their Duty's.

Personnel I've witnessed commonly Working "T-PADS" was of course the > 1. CREW CHIEFs 2. AGE 3. ENGINE SHOP 4. ELECTRICIANS 5. FUEL 6. WEAPS 7. ECM 8. (Please ADD Any MOS I've left off !).

The 1st Airman Asking about > "TRIM PAD" on this Board (I believe was DAN M.). Though do NOTE my fairly extensive POSTs of "T-PADS" ever since, Notably > (3) NW PADs are approx. 377 Meters from the Eastern SECURITY PERIMETER (Line shows as "RED" on MAPS on this SITE). While no one has yet mentioned the Term "RED-BALL", I deem crucial to explain it's significance [Defined]> "Term used by USAF, typically on flight lines ("HOT PAD" nearest Runway), for *URGENT SERVICE by Pilot Request* performed by AF TECH's for avoiding Mission Cancelation(s)" - "RED-BALLS" Rated Highest Priority- AF TECH's working TAKHLI's Northernmost PAD were within 190 Meters from the Eastern SEC. PERIMETER!

In Fact ALL (4) PADs measure (GoogEarth) LESS than 500 Meters from any Point/Line of the TAKHLI SEC. PERIMETER, well within 500M (CHETCO) stipulation. Once the above points have been Officially confirmed / acknowledged by VA as 100% Factual > *SHALL then APPLY to ONE Airman's CASE* (regularly working any (of 4) TAKHLI TRIM PADs), FEW Reasons remain WHY these same Factors should not be Applicable to Any/All other Airmen performing similar Duty's, at Same TRIM PADs, on the Same BASE, over the Same Time Period ! Once Medical Conditions are determined to have been accumulated while VETs worked within 500 Meters of any TAKHLI T-PAD, the VA Policy requiring each such Airman must "Individually" present/ his/her own CASE should hereinafter be Abolished. Rather > "Any Group of TAKHLI VETs during Specified YEAR(s), within affected MOS's, working TRIM PADs, on Same BASE, and having Identical/Related Medical issues, shall TOGETHER be evaluated expeditiously for "Service-connected Herbicide (AO Derivative) Exposure" (per VA Docs), with such CASE(s) Disposition(s) > decided and completed NLT 18 Months following the 1st VETs File Date from that particular Group of VETs. Any APPEALs by either the VA, or this GROUP of VETS shall also be Settled with Expediency NLT 6M beyond the 1st APPEAL Date (Total of 24 Months), the Intent being > Ensuring all Qualified, afflicted VETs are provided their Rightful Coverage / Benefits, before their Wives & Children are left to Bury these Honorable Men and Women having already Sacrificed their young Lives, as much if not more than ( 5 ) Decades ago,

Considering over the past 50 Years each/every TAKHLI VET has either suffered from Herbicide/AO -Related Diseases or has perished from these, as well the immense TIME & Personal $Costs Expended, there shall be NO further purpose ANY "Reviewed/ Qualified TAKHLI VETs be Required to "Individually / Independently" run their CASEs from Day 1 thru 3+ APPEALs over 5 - 10 Year periods, by which time the majority of "Qualified VETs" have likely already died from AO Toxins. Any other Practice should be considered High-Crimes against this Fast-Aging Group of United States Veteran's of Foreign Wars. Suggest forwarding this on to your U.S. Supreme Court for Immediate Review & Just Resolution before our next Generation(s) of VETs also face awaiting 50 Years of DOD and VA "Delay Tactics". Mike C.

I was the OIC of the 333rd TFS weapons section from Oct 1966 to Oct 1967. Served another tour at Korat AB from Jul 1973 to Jul 1974. Stayed in AF and retired in 1987.

I served at Takhli from May 67 to May 68. I worked base supply and delivered expedite parts to the flight-line, shops and once in a while to the trim pads.

My dad was stationed in Takhli from 67-68 as a pnuedraulics specialist. His name was Billy Ault he was an A1C at the time. Told me a story the he had a kidney infection with a fever so high they took him to the morgue and zipped him in a body bag full of ice to break the fever. He died with a weird blood disorder is there any chance he was exposed to Agent Orange while there

Mike, simple answer...YES there is a chance of herbicide (AO) exposure. The hard part is proving it to the VA. It depends on where your dad lived, worked and played while at Takhli. The Takhli Base map at the top of this message board shows the base at full build out. If we can help let us know. LouB.

Hey guys, I was at Takhli from July 67 thru July 68. I worked at the Tool Issue Center. I probably most of you maintenance type guys because you would receive your tools you needed for your job. We worked hard there but we played hard as well, especially in takhli town and a number of visits to Bangkok. That town was heaven for us. Speaking of heaven, anyone ever go to the Thai Heaven in Bangkok. What a place! Made a lot of friends there and still in contact with a number of them. People I worked with included Steve Stay, John Swinger, Roger Steinberger, jim Ivey, bob higher, mike troxell, John Casey as well as others. So many memories...Jim koczara

I left Takhli RTAFB in September 1967. I worked on Ground-Air Nav-Aids (TACAN, TVOR, Homing Beacons)from 1966-1967. I remember incoming F-105 Thunderchief hitting the runway HARD as his 500-lb. bomb detached from its belly and bounced down the runway as I was in the flightline working on white and orange Nav-Aids equipment unit. I played my guitar in our hooch for my own entertainment. My guitar at the time was a custom made Gibson L-5C sunburst acoustic guitar with Johnny Smith floating pickup mounted at the end of the dovetailed ebony fingerboard...in a pink-fleece-lined hardshell tan case with a zippered canvas case cover that I kept under my bed in the hooch. I remember that Ann Landers published a newspaper column from an "Airman King" who complained to her that she asked folks to send letters to military folks in Vietnam...but that military folks in Thailand weren't mentioned in her column. As a result over 1,000 pounds of letters from home came to Takhli and were piled on the floor of the base library...and airmen were asked to respond to some of these letters just to say thanks to the folks who wrote. I responded to about 40 of those letters. I remember bar maids who responded by saying "You Number One GI" or "You Number 10 GI." Sawadee.

I was at Takhli in the bomb dump Feb 67-Feb68 and I think I remember Jim Agans taking photos one night of my crew

Worked mostly Swing Shifts. Noticing your Standard TAKHLI MAP right as it appears (prior to Zooming In), you can SEE One of our "TRIM PADS", that you likely Remember seeing A/C Engines being Run-Up for various Elect. Checks after Repairs completed. Do You Recall our 105's & EB-66's sittin' INSIDE those ( 3 ) TRIM PADS @ NorthWest End of Runway... ? Figuring so, wondering IF we could Exchange Buddy Letters... ? I was there November 67 to August 68. Aircraft electrician with the KC-135 tankers. We moved to CCK, Taiwan in August of 68.

I also was assigned to Wheel and Tire shop
January 67- November 67, after which I was discharged. Can't remember name of
E7 NCOIC at the time.

Just saying hello to anyone who came to sick call at the base hospital. I was a medic at Takhli from July 67 to June 68 and worked the sick call desk twice a day, sometimes, and other times I worked in the hospital admin office.

43151c stationed Takhli during this time period had my case rejected intend on appealing my case.

Arrived September 66 and homebound August 67. Crash rescue mechanic in the quansit along the runway. Mainly fire trucks
