23rd TFW

I am a County Veterans Service Officer assisting a former member of the 23rd TFW withn a VA claim. He claims that after departing from McConnell AFB on a tdy mission to Takli Mar - Aug 1965, that in Hawii, approx 18 members - including him - were pulled aside and sent on a different route that took them through Wake Island, Guam, Okinawa, Da Nang, and then on to Takli to be reunited with the rest of the unit. I cannot find anything in the form of manifests, orders etc that confirms this information. He remembers two people: Hoppy Hopkins and Donald Kesseler. Can any of you help? Thanks.

I am currently trying to help my dad obtain disability benefits. He was in the 23rd Field Maintenance Squadron. He left for Takhli in April of 1965 and I have heard him talk about stopping in Hawaii. Out of curiosity I checked a paper of his that I have...the Special Order from 835th Air Division (TAC) dated 6 April 1965 and there is an A1C Richard Hopkins and an A2C Donald Kesler listed. My dad is Richard Falkenrath. Don't know if your Veteran remembers him. If you feel this letter or getting in touch with my father would help, please email me. Either way...best of luck to you!!

I would be happy to scan in the information and send it to you. It will be this evening before I can do it though.

How exciting that you get in touch with Mr Kessler. My dad is going through the whole VA disability benefits procedure right now, so any information you can share with us would be GREATLY appreciated.
