Re: EB-66 crash Nov. 66 or early Dec.66
I was station at Takhali from May 67-May 68. I have the image embedded in my mind of that crash for the last 47 years. I was a jet engine mechanic at Takhali and worked on both 66's & the 105. I worked on that aircraft, don't remember the tail number, the day before it crashed. I had to change a hydraulic pump on one of the engines, don't recall if it was number 1 or 2 engine. I remember the plane coming in for a landing when it crashed short of the runway. It was the side of the runway that was between the runway and the road to the town of takhali. I had to go to the crash site and recover the engines, what was left of them. The reason it has always stuck in my mind, there was one of the crew members helmut lying in the grass. I picked it up and looked inside and saw pieces of hair and spots of blood. The person in charge of the recovery, who I can't remember, yelled at me to put it down. I was called to a crash inquiry about what I did to the plane the day before it crash. I don't remember how long after the crash but I was told I didn't contribute to the crash. I was very relieved that it was not my fault the plane crashed. I just wish I could get that image out of my mind for the last 47 years. I hope this help you in your research of the crash. Contact me for anymore information if need it. Allan P Sharog E-4
