IIRC, when I was breaking in as an operator at Plymouth in 1966, these coal trains had four new SD35’s as power with no helpers. They were always lined up the main so as to get a better run at the Hill. I don’t recall them stalling on the Hill however it was always a close call. One had to have a lot of seniority to hold one of these Toledo – GR trains as they paid high mileage. They and their sister freight trains were referred to as “The Dizzy” or “The Mortgage Lifter” because of that high mileage. The “Dizzy” came from the fact they were the first interdivisional runs and crews weren’t used to not going straight through at Plymouth.
