Re: Stephens to 5 lakes junction?
Wow things sure open up and come into sight once u go back to the black and white aerial view in 1999 on Google earth and especialy the 1954 aerial on historic aerials. I got my laptop out this time too see a much bigger pic of the aerial of Stephens and 5 lakes area. It appears the grade curved down south west from 5 lakes and went down part of bryers rd. And then went straight south either directly down bryers rd. Or skightly beside it then I see a narrow grade that look like it continues south across vernors and King roads. And appears that it then turned south east and connected with the rest of the line at Stephens. It also looks like it possibly had another leg of the wye that connected to the rest of the line so trains could get on the extension to 5 lakes from either direction. I could be wrong though. But once I got on the black and white and historical aerials a trail or grade definately opened up and u can see where it ran right through the edge of a pond on the way up to 5 lakes about halfway between Stephens and 5 lakes. Sure wish I had the land owners permission and an atv to see if I could get down the trail and explore it. Or who knows maybe a 4x4 jeep or pickup jacked up with large mud tires might be needed to get down it.
