Re: 178 CAR LAKESTATE TRAIN
CSX is not "loaning" power to the LSRC. When you see CSX power on trains, it will be mostly for the Grain trains. CSX power is used under what is known as run-thru. These agreements allow unit trains to start to finish use the same power. No need to stop and change power every time they come on another railroad. If you see them on a general freight train north of Flint, this may be a power move to get them back to CSX before they are needed on unit trains again. And then, there is the LSRC #Z-127. This train starts in Walbridge Ohio as another CSX number, and comes north to Flint 7 days per week. It returns back to Walbridge later the same day. It will stop at Wixom/Novi and change crew from CSX to LSRC and vise-versa on the return. CSX power is needed to be in the lead because once they are on CSX trackage just south of Novi, PTC is required to operate on CSX trackage. So that is why there will always be a CSX leader on this particular train. That being said, LSRC is supposed to be getting two more SD-70m's with the #6437, and #6438. I think they are in Hudson Indiana right now on the Indiana Northeastern getting painted and preped
