LSRC to Plymouth

Today I saw what I assume was CSX taking a sixty car unit LP gas train south to Plymouth, from Lincoln Yard in Wixom. I'am wondering why it had one CSX engine and one Lake State Railway engine, rather than two CSX engines? I thought LSRC cut off their units and CSX hooks up theirs to take the trains south. Why would CSX need to use one of Lake States locomotives? I did'nt get the LSRC unit number, but it looked like brand new shiny paint!
