Re: LRSC Question Bay City - The Pit
Well, Jim covered the tracks on the north side of the river, I believe your talking about the old spur referred to as "the hole", which is a short spur running east off of the former C&O main at "South Bay City"...I know this spur crosses M-13 and continues toward the river crossing a few other streets, (Marsac, Wilson, McCormick, Webster, Taylor), then curving south after crossing Harrison street. Down there, there are still some active warehouses, and businesses, but the very last time I seen any kind of rail activity was at least 10 years ago, as one of those places used covered hopper cars for something. Once upon a time, this little spur crossed over the GTW "Browhhouse spur)going north along the river. I was just up to Bay City a couple of weeks ago, and came home via M-13, and I think the crossing there (marked with crossbucks only) also had an exempt sign installed. Anyway, between Jim's report, and mine, this should answer your question.
