The show could have been off to a great start with the story that brought Laura and Kevin together (the mystery of Helena's will that took them back to the disco etc.) And then they moved off in an entirely different direction. Personally, I think Frank has some sort of professional ADD which has been a major detriment to anything the show has tried to accomplish. He just can't seem to stick to anything be it a story line, a canvas of characters or anything in between. I'm sure that the budget being paramount is part of the issue but it isn't the entire issue by any means.

And no matter how anyone - including Genie - has tried to take the edge off Frank, all I can remember is how in 2013-2014 he said in more than one interview that he "didn't see a place for Laura on the canvas." I tend to believe that he continues to hold that perspective, and expect than even if she comes back it won't be more successful that it was in 2016-2017. Without the departure of Frank Laura won't be allowed to be the character we all crave to see.
