It’s been waaaaaay too long since I’ve contributed to this Forum. As someone said below, life happens…….and all of a sudden it’s today instead of yesterday. It has been ten years since the trademark “The Kingston Trio” was licensed to other people. Since then, the Folk Legacy Trio has engaged the world. But with the onset of COVID, the world engaged us. We lost over thirty concerts during that COVID year and have been fighting ever since to reclaim that momentum. Wherever we’ve gone, we’ve made lasting friends and fans, but the fact remains that Entertainment Directors, Operations Managers, and agents are getting younger and, like so many younger people, they haven’t been taught the value of knowing history, including the history of the field in which they’ve chosen to work. Case in point: I called a reputable Los Angeles agency a few months ago and spoke to the owner who I knew from my KT days. He was excited about representing the FLT, but said that his agency is larger now and he would need to run it by his agents who would be responsible for selling the act. He called me a week later and said that he was sorry to tell me no, but his agents didn’t even know what Folk Music was/is and didn’t think they could sell what they knew nothing about.

I keep pushing, keep calling, and continue trying to sell the act. But 95+% of the venues or people responsible for bookings never respond. At the same time, we’ve just returned to the studio to record more of that wonderful music. Oh, yes, I’ll be sending it to that L.A. agency and will try to make a presentation to them if for no other reason than to teach them about a part of the history of American music which, even if they don’t book it, they should know about.

I appreciate all of you — all of us — who continue to cherish, think about, inquire about, and listen to the wonderful music of the great Folk Era. That music became the foundation of so much popular music, and the iconic voices of Bob Shane, Nick Reynolds, Glenn Yarbrough, Jimmie Rodgers, Noel Paul Stookey, Chad Mitchell and so many more inspired me then and continue inspire me.
