Ah, the memories! Those delightful days when any deviation from someone or other's political orthodoxy (to be fair, in those days mostly that of Sen. Joseph McCarthy) got a performer or other politically minded individual branded as a "Commie" or a "Red" with attendant loss of job, home, position, et al.

The select committee from the House of Representatives undertook to clarify what "unAmerican" meant - without any success beyond stimulating gales of laughter from anyone who had actually, you know, READ the U.S. Constitution.
