House UnAmerican Activities Committee

Ah, the memories! Those delightful days when any deviation from someone or other's political orthodoxy (to be fair, in those days mostly that of Sen. Joseph McCarthy) got a performer or other politically minded individual branded as a "Commie" or a "Red" with attendant loss of job, home, position, et al.

The select committee from the House of Representatives undertook to clarify what "unAmerican" meant - without any success beyond stimulating gales of laughter from anyone who had actually, you know READ the U.S. Constitution.
