So you're the guy Tom Paxton wrote his song "My Ramblin' Boy" for. (hahaha)
Seriously though, Rick, whenever I visit here I always enjoy your posts. Thank you for chiming in.
For the record (pardon another pun) I'm also a "Folk-nik" but like you, The Beatles and The Beach Boys won me over.
When I first got into The Beatles, it was Paul McCartney who impressed me. For one thing, playing his guitar upside down was a start! (hahaha)
OK OK, I know he's left-handed; no problem. When I took my GF Cheryl to see the movie "A Hard Day's Night" she wouldn't stop slapping me
on top of my head screaming: "PAUL, PAUL, OH PAUL, ISN'T HE SOOO CUTE?"
I snapped back: "To Each Their Own." Grrrrrr.... (I was getting a headache)
But I did in fact like Paul McCartney ---- as a MUSICIAN
Girls in the movie theater were going wild yelling the names: JOHN - PAUL - GEORGE - RINGO....
and there was a part of me that wanted to walk out, but I didn't!
Speaking of which, a couple of years later, when The Beatles "Sgt Pepper's" album came out, I was totally grabbed by the song "She's Leaving Home."
Still love it after all these years. And when you think Paul McCartney wrote this song at the young age of 24, shows his extremely high level of insight.
I don't see Cheryl anymore, and I sometimes wonder wherever she is there's screams of PAUL PAUL PAUL going on!

Back in those days, I was totally into folk. I wasn't at all interested in rock and roll. But then came the Beatles and the Beach Boys. They were the first two groups that caught my ear. I loved them I have all the Beatles discography in my collection. I also got to liking the Association. Eventually, I became a fan of rock and roll, though a lot of it at first was folk rock. But yes, I'm a Trio fan who fell in love with the Beatles. Hell, my best friend and I saw the Beatles movie HELP! 23 times. It HELPED! That my Great-grandmother owner the theater and we got in for free. One lazy summer day we went to see the first screening of the day and sat through the movie four straight times. He had a great memory and could could recite line after line of the film. He was the Nick of my Trio wannabe group back then. While me and "Bob" were playing oddball instruments, his Dad bought him a Martin 0-18T tenor and we really thought we were cool. Anyway, I'm rambling. Sorry. Nothing else to do with my time these days. Previous Message
I know about The Beatles opening for The Kingston Trio back in 1962.
The Beatles opened for our guys in England. Bob Shane told Paul McCartney (backstage) The Beatles were the best band he heard in a long time.
They should come to America.
We all know the rest. But many of us KT fans also became Beatles fans and bought their records.
For whatever reason, Paul McCartney became my favorite. For the record (pun intended) the "Sgt Pepper" album was Paul's idea.
On an airplane, the person sitting beside Paul asked him to please pass the salt 'n pepper.
Paul McCartney looks at this guy and says: "Did you say pass the Sergeant Pepper" ?
Fast Forward to 1969 when Paul McCartney married Linda Eastman.
Paul told Linda he wanted to form a band and wanted her to be up on stage with him.
Linda did not like the idea. She told Paul that Mick Jagger would never ask his "old lady" to join him on stage.
Paul snapped back: "Well, screw him.
Linda says: "I already have."
