Definitely on a higher level than Paul McCartney or John Lennon. It was George's guitar playing that got him into the band.
Not only that, but on the Beatles infamous Abbey Road album, George outdid the songwriting of John and Paul.
John Lennon simply dismissed George's songwriting as "Harrisongs", but you can't beat Here Comes The Sun or Something:

I think George made the Beatles what they were. John and Paul wrote great songs. And their voices blended great. But take away George's guitar work and what do you have? Not a hell of a lot!

Back in the day I used to be a big Beatlemaniac.
At least when I saw A Hard Day's Night, I never screamed for Paul.
I had a big crush on George Harrison and would scream out 'GEORGE' :>) LOL
