When I took home the Kingston Trio's 'Close-Up' album, I didn't know what to expect. Sure, John Stewart was the front man and leader of his Cumberland Three,
but replacing Dave Guard? I had my doubts. But 'Oh Sail Away' won me over the second I heard it. And so did the NBJ trio!
* Kudos to:
Jim Moran / Mikey Burns / Gaylan Taylor
Thanks for the kind words, Max.
I was apologizing to Gaylan because when Mikey and I rehearsed the song with him Gaylan kept emphasizing the need to keep up a fairly brisk pace and keep the body of the song the same speed as the intro. Both Mikey and I slowed a bit in the middle of the song, but Gaylan took it in stride.
Now to my own post on the topic....
I've always really liked this song
By John Phillips and Dick Weisman of The Journeymen
I don't remember The Journeymen doing it.
Wow Mikey.... you sure had some great partners on this one.
Jim your banjo work on this was excellent...maybe better than the original. I don't think Stewart was playing the banjo on the recording. Maybe Glenn Campbell ??????
I'm sure that everyone misses Galan... sorry he didn't have a singing part on this song... Jim, what did you say to Galan after you finished the song....Mikey was a little off key at the beginning
