(who loved THE KINGSTON TRIO but didn't like to admit it)....
and a big fan of JUDY COLLINS (who not only recorded some terrific albums for Elektra Records)....
but Judy also put our beloved poet LEONARD COHEN on the map. Anyhow....
JONI MITCHELL was in a different categorie than Joan and Judy. No, not "better" ~> but different.
Perhaps it had to do with Joni being from Saskatoon, Canada. Her perceived innocence, along with....
Joni having tremendous rapport with audiences in BOTH our countries (Canada & U.S.A.)
Joni giggled a lot and she came on as a cute kid who not only wrote amazing songs;
Joni played guitar fluently (even struggling with that blasted "F" chord) and played piano with super precision.
She also had a very unique voice; nobody sounded like: JONI MITCHELL
I'd like to add another song {entitled: "Carey"} from Joni's infamous album: BLUE (rel: 1971)
<> In the words of JONI MITCHELL:
"In the early 1970s, when I met Carey Raditz, he was living in a cave, in Matala, Crete.
I latched onto Carey because I found him very good looking and he seemed fierce.
He kept the crowd off my back. I enjoyed Carey's company and his audacity.
He was a bit of a scoundrel who walked around with a cane and sometimes he'd swing it at folks he didn't like.
Oh yeah, Carey was a mean ol' daddy, but I liked him."
- Joni Mitchell
<> "Carey" (written for Carey Raditz in 1970 and recorded for Joni Mitchell's album "BLUE"
Here is the "live" version Joni performed in London (1983):
ps: The album JONI MITCHELL/BLUE is being re-issued on 180gram vinyl as a 2-LP "Ultra-Disc Box Set (45rpm)
via MOBILE FIDELITY SOUND LABS (Mofi) scheduled to be released by the end of August 2023

When Joni was performing in NYC, I remember there being a big lit up sign that reads *** NEW YORK LOVES JONI MITCHELL ***
So do I.
