I want to know your favorite Lightfoot song but here's the catch. You cannot choose these songs. Sundown, Carefree Highway, Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald, If You Could Read My Mind, Early Morning Rain, Canadian Railroad Trilogy, Rainy Day People, Beautiful, Song For a Winter's Night, Don Quixote and last but certainly not least Did She Mention My Name.
The first tune on the B side of my favorite Lightfoot album, 1968's Did She Mention My Name? - "Mountains and Maryanne"
I should qualify "favorite album' - it's got my favorite GL songs on it, but the orchestrations were wholly unnecessary and to me really annoying. Gord did this kind of thing much better later in his career - which is why I'm posting this live version (a virtual match for the studio track) instead of the original.
