But yes, she's one of my all-time favourites. Her wardrobe and jewelry collection are dreamy.

She doesn't seem the type for either. The photos have certainly been touched up a bit. Her recent appearances at Ascot, etc. show she hasn't had any--nor, indeed, needs any--cosmetic work done.

Birgitte's jewelry collection is magnificent. She can thank Queen Mary and Princess Alice of Gloucester for most of it. Mary made up parures and at least one suite of jewels out of her own vast collection for three of her four daughters-in-law on their wedding days. Alice received a turquoise parure and an emerald suite as wedding gifts from Mary, along with the Gloucester Honeysuckle Tiara and some smaller jewels like brooches and bracelets. Birgitte had access to almost all the jewels during Alice's lifetime, and inherited more after Alice's death.

Alice also received the collection of Princess Marie Louise, which was surprisingly large for a "minor" princess.

I think she got a lot of jewelry when she married and got more when she divorced. She certainly loved jewels as much as Queen Mary did! Prince Richard of Gloucester was her godson and she and Alice were close friends.

The Cartier Indian Tiara is one piece from Prince Marie Louise. Birgette has always been a big favorite of mine. She is the model of an outsider marrying into the Royal Family, even if it's the "junior line".
As with the Kents, the Duke and Duchess have been loyal to the Monarch and carried out duties quietly and without any fuss.
