Appeals Court Throws Out Ruling That Would Alllow Marius Emergency Release From Custody

"An appeal court in Norway has overturned a lower court ruling that would have seen Marius Borg Høiby released from custody ahead of a verdict in his high-profile criminal trial, despite arguments that he should be allowed to support his seriously ill mother, Crown Princess Mette-Marit.

The ruling, handed down by the Borgarting Court of Appeal in Oslo on Wednesday, means the 29-year-old son of the crown princess will remain behind bars until judges deliver their verdict next week. Høiby faces 40 criminal charges, including allegations of rape, violence, threats and abusive behaviour, many of which he denies.

His lawyers had successfully persuaded a district court on Monday that continued detention was no longer justified. The lower court concluded that while there remained a marginal risk of reoffending, Høiby had remained drug-free in prison and that keeping him in custody would be “disproportionately intrusive”.

Haakon, Mette-Marit, Ingrid Alexandra and Sverre Magnus visited Marius last weekend. Marius was temporarily released on Mon. to attend a meeting with his mother's medical team. Marius is getting a lot of special treatment that doesn't go out to other prisoners.

Sverre Magnus is young, good-looking, and scandal free. Getting him more involved with Royal duties is a smart move because he will divert attention away from Marius and Mette-Marit's entanglements and scandals and he will ease some of his father's burdens. I'm sure Ingrid Alexandra wants to help, too, and I suspect she's helping take care of her mother.

Does Norway have something like day work release programs like here in the US? He could go to his mother and help during the day, but be taken back to prison ant evening?

She doesn't need his "help". They have staff to manage the household and nurses for daily care. It's a comfort for Mette-Marit to have her husband and children close by, but she won't perish from lack of Marius's "assistance".

I don't know about Norway, but a verdict hasn't been handed down and he broke his custody terms before trial and ended up being jailed. If he's found guilty, in the US, he wouldn't be anywhere eligible for a work release of any kind. He would be a convicted violent felon. They aren't chosen for work release or...very, very rarely.
Marius is using his concern for his mother as a ruse to get out, I'll bet he's want to do a runner. He's violent and cruel to women, but he's a scared coward about prison, there's always someone bigger, meaner and more violent than you in prison. He may not be segregated in prison and he may not have his mother looking out for him. All these crimes he's committed were carried out after his mother's diagnosis, he didn't give a care about her. Marius only turned to his mother when he was arrested.
As for MM, she aided and abetted her son. I'm sure she was far from truthful when questioned by the police and probably made sure they knew about her medical condition...and her status as Crown Princess.
I'm harsh, I know, but it's the truth. We used to get inmates at the two hospitals I worked at and they are the biggest con artists in the world and their mothers are just as bad for the most part. Marius is only going to serve 7 yr. maximum if found guilty, if he doesn't die in prison....

Norwegian prisons are nothing like US prisons. Have you seen the photo of the mass-murderer Breivik? It's like a college dorm, and yet *he* still whines about his lack of comforts.
