Confirmation of Athena, Countess of Monpezat

On Friday May 2, 2026 Athena, Countess of Monpezat was confirmed at the Georgetown Lutheran Church in Washington DC. Her parents, Prince Joachim and Princess Marie of Denmark and all 3 of her brothers attended the service

She has certainly grown into a beautiful young lady.

Are you referring to the absence of Queen Margarethe or other close family members?

Well, there is that. Christian and Isabella are old enough to travel to DC to support their cousin. I can see Frederik and Mary not being able to go, but it looked sparse there in the family line up.

I was referring, actually, to how Athena seemed distant from her nuclear family. There is that photo of Marie and Athena very close, but Athena is leaning away. She didn't stand squared to any of them. I got the impression that she was an island, rather than part of the land mass. If that makes sense. Of course, a photo is only a moment in time and only tells the story of that moment. I could be wrong.

I see what your mean. Maybe it's just her age and not liking to especially be the center of attention. I did see a picture elsewhere - don't remember where now - in which her brothers formed a line behind her and were holding her up horizontally. Hope that makes sense. It was a cute funny picture of the 4 of them. Here it is. I found a link to it and a few other pictures

Those photos tell a different story, with the siblings interacting more normally. Athena is a young teenager, so who knows what mood she's in from one moment to the next. She may have just had enough of the photographers in the first series that had me wondering.

I see something of a resemblance between Athena and Josephine. Both are beautiful young women. Congratulations, Athena!
