Andrew Mountbatten Windsor formally stripped of last remaining royal titles by King Charles

King Charles has ordered that his membership of the Order of the Garter, to which he was appointed in 2006, be removed and his appointment as a Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order is also to be cancelled and annulled, records published in The London Gazette show.

So very, very sad. I was always a huge Andrew fan but he devolved into ..... something.

Andrew did have good points, he served in the military and he served in the Falklands war, involved in actual combat. Andrew really took charge the day of the fire at Windsor Castle and afterwards.
We've all read how Andrew was his mother's favorite child and I think he was, perhaps, allowed more leeway than his siblings especially Charles, for obvious reasons. In addition, Andrew and Edward came along at a little later in the Queen's life.
Andrew really never grew out of his immaturity, self centeredness, extreme arrogance and a huge sense of entitledness. Unfortunately, he married a woman with the same traits. My first clue that the marriage was a mistake, was shortly after their marriage, the couple was at a State Banquet, I believe, and throwing eclairs or cream puffs at one another. It may have been at another formal dinner and not a Banquet. However, there's the tow of them acting crass and stupid at a formal occasion. I think Andrew thought that with his mother gone, he still would be taken care of and that his brother/family would make his problems go away, as always.

Andrew had a lot going for him back when. I think he made a major mistake leaving the Navy when he did. It was clear he loved it. Being put to work representing the UK's business interests was another huge mistake. Andrew had neither the experience nor the intelligence for facilitating business connections and so on. If he'd been allowed to at least be involved with military charities, he'd have been much better.

In many ways his has been a wasted life.

Oh absolutely, Andrew should have stayed in the Navy, I think it was what he really wanted to do. I'm sure Fergie had put pressure on him to quit. She always blames the Navy for her "dalliances" or to be crass, her "affairs" while Andrew was serving.
It was a huge mistake to have Andrew replace the Duke of Kent as the British Trade Rep., I can't remember the correct title right now. It was a huge debacle in the making. That was the beginning of his downfall as we know it.

As I recall, Andrew left the Navy because his career had come to an end. There would be no more promotions because he had climbed as far as his abilities could take him. Rather than have him languish at rank with others passing him, he became the trade envoy.

You're correct, that rings the bell. It was too bad that Andrew couldn't have still remained close to his naval roots and worked with the charities associated with the branch and worked with Naval vets of past wars.
