Thanks for posting, Nellie. That was interesting. I don't know what I would do--I have such a sense of history that I would like to think I would return the jewels. But then, those jewels! I would love to wear them--but where in the world would I wear them?

I think the British way might be best, that is, what we believe the late Queen practised.
The major jewels associated with royal occasions and events, and past queens, were lent to a royal lady for lifetime use.
I don't recall ever learning of the current "rules" about jewels.

I'm with you Nellie, the late QEII's practice of loaning jewels was the best solution.
I agree with the YouTube presenter that it would be lovely if Countess Alexandra returned the Alexandrine Tiara back to the the Royal Family. If she's keeping for one or both of her sons to have a tiara for their future wives...I really don't see that happening. Nikolai or Felix don't carry out any Royal engagements nor have they been included in any Royal banquets/State visit etc. Both are leading lives as private citizens, more or less.
There's the animosity over the titles being changed, so I'm sure that's another reason for the distance between the grandsons and their grandmother and the now King and Queen. I just hope Alexandra doesn't hold on to the tiara out of spite. It was a mistake to give her the tiara, but at the time, I admit I thought it was a lovely gesture.

The video doesn't mention or show the jewels Queen Mary gave to three of her four daughters-in-law upon their marriages to her son (Bessiewallis Warfield Spencer Simpson was not given anything, for obvious reasons, but I doubt she minded as her husband helped her amass a fabulous collection). for instance, Mary created parures for Elizabeth, Marina, and Alice, each with a different type of jewel. Elizabeth got a diamond parure, including tiara, necklace, bracelets, etc, while Marina got the Cambridge Sapphire Parure and Alice got Queen Mary's turquoise parure. All three women were also given additional tiaras and jewels by Mary on their respective weddings, and they were all left even more jewelry in her Will. The Kent and Gloucester jewelry will cease to be "Royal" and then we may see items with a Royal provenence show up at Sotheby's at some point.
